The PowerPoint® Blog

I work with PowerPoint on a daily basis and I am very honored to be a Microsoft PowerPoint MVP. We have a talented team of presentation designers at TLC Creative Services and ThePowerPointBlog is our area to highlight PowerPoint tips, tricks, examples and tutorials. Enjoy! Troy Chollar

Engaging Guest Speakers

We design great speaker support presentations. But it is not always about the (great) graphics. Sometimes the most engaging presentations are just a presenter on stage presenting.

Guest speakers 1

Corporate meetings have guest speakers. Being the Presentation expert behind the curtain means we get a VIP seat to see and hear many of today’s engaging speakers, bands and entertainers. In 2015, General Colin Powell stands out as a memorable presenter, not for any presentation graphics, but just for being a fantastic and engaging speaker. This is Gen. Powell’s only slide and my view of the stage. It was a great hour of presentation!

Presentations that Curve

PowerPoint does not have anything to do with the physical curve of the presentation. Instead, the curve is done by all the great AV crews that we have the opportunity to work with. The 16×9 presentations are nicely designed, but have no special setup.

The Ultrawide background is a custom PowerPoint template setup to match the projection pixel count with images and content strategically designed so as not to interfere with standard 16×9 slides and IMAG areas. TLC Creative Services plans with production companies in advance to ensure all layers are coordinated. These are the presentation design projects that our team really enjoys!

Motion GFX for a Custom Podium

As a design project for an awards show, TLC Creative was asked to develop a video loop to play on a custom podium that has a 16×9 monitor in portrait – very cool! We story-boarded the visual concept and motion effects (using PowerPoint as the storyboard canvas), then after client approval we moved into Photoshop, Illustrator and video editing (Premiere and After Effects), using elements from two provided event collateral pieces and a lot of creativity. The final piece was designed to coordinate with the event theme, have subtle motion that would not be distracting, work with the staging and seamlessly loop for the duration of the event. The full loop was several minutes, here is a 30 second clip of the animation.

Toyota Presentation- Before and After

Here’s another great client and example of a provided slide vs. the presentation makeover slides that were used in the final presentation. In this instance, after reading the script, we opted to divide the single slide into two more visually dynamic slides and take a long section of talking and break it into two visuals.

WWE Collector Poster Series

This is a print design project that spanned much of last year where we developed a collector series of large (24″x36″) posters featuring classic WWE superstars. Definitely makes things fun at TLC Creative when you walk around and have one designer working on a presentation about life saving medical treatments and the next designer developing a larger than life Hulk Hogan! Hope you were able to get to the 4 special WWE live events and collect all 4!!

The Magic Poof Tradeshow Booth

TLC Creative Services does a lot of graphic design projects outside the presentation world. Here is one fun, “traditional” graphic design project from last year. The creator of the Magic Poof (a great children’s book series) asked TLC to use our creativity to design a fun, imaginative and memorable tradeshow booth for the Las Vegas Licensing show. We brainstormed a few concepts and then worked with the book illustrator to get some custom character art to bring Ange-Marie’s bedroom to real-life scale as a photo op for attendees.

A Really Wide PowerPoint Presentation

TLC Creative Services really likes making visually dynamic presentations, especially when they don’t fit the standard PowerPoint specifications. For an awards show, we were tasked with designing the projected 250 ft. wide backdrop and the “standard” 16×9 awards presentation. Working with the staging company, we developed this custom 10,750px x 1080px PowerPoint template. Then onsite, we made adjustments to ensure each screen was pixel accurate.

Onsite, TLC Creative’s graphics transformed the white screens into a fantastic awards show setting – the result of many projectors, some overlapping, some butt-aligned, and walls at different depths. Something more than “just PowerPoint” by the design team at TLC!

Have a presentation? We’ll Travel

Travel 1

For January, The PowerPoint Blog is focusing on 2015 Portfolio Highlights. Looking at the 2015 project calendar, it was a busy year. Along with the number of presentation shows we get to support, comes lots of travel. It’s great to experience new parts of the world and build new memories.

Here are a few of the memorable destinations that took place in 2015:

  • Istanbul, Turkey
  • New Orleans, Louisiana (multiple times)
  • Bermuda
  • New York, New York
  • Orlando, Florida (multiple times)
  • Los Angeles, California (many, many times)
  • Singapore
  • Seattle, Washington
  • Many other ballrooms in cities across the U.S. and Canada

Happy New Year 2016 – A Resolution

Happy-New-Year-2016

Happy New Year! Everyone at TLC Creative Services is excited about 2016! Today is the 10 year anniversary of The PowerPoint Blog (Jan. 1, 2006 was the first post)!!

Our New Year’s Resolution has been in the works for a few months with the addition of new team members and a lot of planning for the blog and a few other presentation community projects this year. For The PowerPoint Blog, I have come up with 12 presentation  topics – one for each month of 2016, we have filled in the blog post titles for over 1/2 the 2016 posts, and we have over 30 posts ready to go! So, for 2016, look forward to PowerPoint samples, tips & tricks and tutorials every Monday-Wednesday-Friday!

Today’s photos are not of the TLC office (which does have some great holiday decorations too!), but of our Christmas lights at home – which is now a 10 year tradition.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
