The PowerPoint® Blog

I work with PowerPoint on a daily basis and I am very honored to be a Microsoft PowerPoint MVP. We have a talented team of presentation designers at TLC Creative Services and ThePowerPointBlog is our area to highlight PowerPoint tips, tricks, examples and tutorials. Enjoy! Troy Chollar

Edit Presenter Notes Live While Presenting!

The ability to edit presenter notes, while presenting, is now available on both Windows and Mac desktop apps!  In edit view, presenter notes are added, and edited here:

And when presenting, those notes display here in Presenter View:

What is new is the ability to in Presenter View click into the Presenter Notes area. The notes area gets a white outline, indicating the focus is there. While the notes area is the focus, the presenter notes can be modified!

This is great for all presenters and a great addition to the functionality of PowerPoint!

Make the Windows 11 Start Menu Better

I have moved to Windows 11, on my main design computer. So I have been spending lots of time tweaking the interface to be more familiar and work better for my workflow. The Start Menu is a big change from Windows 10, but I found a small feature set that is making it better – adding these shortcut icons!

To add these time saving shortcuts to your Windows 11 Start Menu, go to SETTINGS > PERSONIZATION > START > and then the part that is not intuitive (to me) is calling these shortcuts “folders”. Click on the arrow icon to see the options.

From the Folders menu, turn on all (I did not turn on PERSONAL FOLDERS for my workflow).

Done! The Windows 11 Start Menu has all of the shortcuts I was using in Windows 10, just in a different location (I prefer the Windows 11 location).

Who Watched Emergency! The TV Show?

The story behind this meeting I was able to be onsite for is pretty amazing. The 50 year celebration for the (amazing – and part of my childhood) TV show Emergency! was scheduled for 2021. With COVID gathering regulations in place, the 50 year anniversary celebration was postponed. Lucky for me, I was on another event and Denny Hare the producer for the Emergency! 50 year event was a part of that meeting, we talked, I was invited to join the team for the now delayed 51st celebration of the TV show! The theater was amazing. The tech “pit” was literally under the audience seating with 5′ ceilings (note all the caution tape in photo!).

I did get to see, but not formally meet, Randy Mantooth (John Gage) and Kevin Tighe (Roy DeSoto) and the real Engine 51! Sometimes work is just amazing!

Inside – Backstage – Outside

A few quick photos of my life last week (in San Diego) onsite as the GFX Op for another corporate event. Front of House (in the ballroom) – Backstage (at my ‘office’) – and enjoying a break outside.

Wrapping This Series with Troy’s Favorite – Space Invaders!

The absolute classic arcade game (based on my childhood and stacks of Quarters spent at the local arcade) is Space Invaders!

Space Invaders was released in 1978, created by Tomohiro Nishikado. It is one of the earliest shooting games and the goal is to defeat waves of aliens with a laser cannon to earn as many points as possible. Above is the original promotional flyer for the video game and shows the title graphic was a bigger design element than the actual game play. The game title was designed based on the font ITC Machine.

Troy’s template integrates the game colors into the preset color scheme, has the iconic game name text treatment as vector art, and many of the actual game icons. Download the template free here:SpaceInvaders_16x9 Template
