“Don’t Be That (PowerPoint) Guy”

Today is the conclusion of this 2013 Presentation Summit. The event has been great, spending time with many friends has been great, spending time on the beach in Fort Lauderdale, Florida has been great, and leading my final session entitled “Don’t Be That Guy – to the AV Crew” has been great!

The topic was an overview of what presenters should know about AV and large meeting technical setups to have a successful meeting – and success starts with working with an event AV crew.

Note: Next year the Presentation Summit is on the West Coast in San Diego, CA – hope to see you there!

“PowerPoint is my Creative Suite”

Today was a wonderful day in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida at the 2013 Presentation Summit. My session, entitled “PowerPoint is My Creative Suite,” had full attendance and we covered a lot of great projects we have done in the past 6 months at TLC. Specifically projects, tips & tricks, and fun stories of using PowerPoint as a editor or authoring tool for everything but presentations.

Atari is Back!

Microsoft has partnered with Atari to bring a number of classic games to your web browser – assuming you are using Internet Explorer 10. What fun!

Open Internet Explorer and go here: https://atari.com/arcade#!/arcade/atari-promo Very addictive for someone that grew up with the classic Atari 2600 and arcade games.

And they work with the touch screen version of E10 (tested on my Surface Pro – extensively).

Working in Ireland

Céad Míle Fáilte – “One hundred thousand welcomes” – from Dublin, Ireland where I have been working and enjoying the Irish “summer” (which is windy and 60f/15c). It has been a great show with a super widescreen background presentation and 16×9 presentations over it (PIP). Fantastic local AV crew and the Dublin Convention Centre is a great venue.

The presenters cover a wide range of presentation topics, and the webcasts can be viewed any time (by paid attendees) after if you cannot make the live broadcast time.

Next Tuesday, Sept. 10th is the first of the workshops and I am very happy to be the presenter – “Multimedia in PowerPoint.” Join me for an hour of video in PowerPoint tips and tricks!

Info and details here.

PowerPoint 2013 Selection Pane – Drag and Drop!

PowerPoint 2007 introduced the much needed Selection Pane feature. PowerPoint 2013 has added another much needed feature to the Selection Pane – drag and drop to reorder!

The repeated clicking the up/down arrows to move objects to the front or back (z order) is happily now updated with the ability to select, drag, reposition (yay!).

Multi-City, Streaming, Presentations

Last week, I developed the presentation graphics and ran the presentations fort his is the show. It was unique in that I first developed the full animation and dynamic presentations. This was used for the local audience. I then developed a webcast (LiveMeeting) version of the same slides (fewer styling and animation effects to be compatible with the system). Last, was confirming the internal streaming TV system was able to capture and broadcast all without issue. The presentations ran on separate systems that I setup with a central remote to control all for simultaneous presentation control. The overall meeting had the local plus 3 remote sites, local and remote presenters (who took control of the webcast presentation and I followed for the local audience), telepresence cameras and a lot of group interactivity. All ran smoothly and it was a great show!

Showsite in Napa, CA

Always fun to travel to wonderful places, even if I am seeing the inside of a ballroom 90% of the time. Last month, I spent a few days in Napa, CA at a wonderful winery and resort, handling the presenter presentations and overall show graphics.

In addition to a number of great presenters and designing the master show presentation, I was able to make use of my Surface Pro for a presenter that needed to interact with a small set of slides and a number of web demos. The Surface performed great, was very low profile to not distract or block the presenter and was easy to setup.

Incredible Travel Humidifier!

Okay, so this has nothing to do with presentation design – but with being on the road 200+ days per year handling presentation projects I spend a lot of time in hotels. One common thing is they all are over air conditioned, do not have windows that open, and are incredibly dry. I recently purchased this portable humidifier and it does a great job of adding some moisture to a hotel room!

The design is inspiring, being a large cap that fits on top of any water bottle – and it is USB powered!
